Make this delicious snack in just 10 minutes with Air Fryer Roasted Edamame, the perfect tasty side dish!

Our local Japanese restaurant always brings out roasted edamame as an appetizer while waiting for our main meal to be cooked and it is just so delicious. It’s one of the perks of going to this restaurant. After our last visit there, I knew I had to make some in the Air Fryer.

Crispy Edamame is very simple to prepare using the air fryer and it’s now on our regular rotation of after-school snacks too, what a great better-for-you snack in that downtime between school and dinner, right?!

There are a variety of flavor options that you can add to your edamame beans too.

What are the benefits of Edamame?

Edamame are soybeans sold fresh or frozen at the local grocery store.

In the frozen vegetable section, they are frozen in the pod in the freezer section.

They can also be in your fresh vegetable department as well, normally in a packaged bag.

Edamame is high in protein and low in calories being a plant-based food.  They are vitamin-rich too and have been said to help with cholesterol. Edamame has a significant amount of benefits, but with everything, moderation is key too.

They do make for a great low-calorie snack option or a quick appetizer.

Should you use fresh edamame or frozen edamame?

The best part of this Roasted Edamame recipe is that you can easily use fresh edamame or frozen edamame and it will be cooked the same way with a similar cooking time.

How long do you cook Air Fryer Roasted Edamame?

We prefer to cook ours at 390 degrees F for 10 minutes, then add 5 minutes if needed to make crispy air fryer edamame. If you are using frozen edamame this is where your extra time cooking time would be added, it will be cooked perfectly within that additional 5 minutes.

Be sure to place the edamame in a single layer in your air fryer basket. This way during the cooking process, it will evenly cook around the edamame.

Variations of Roasted Edamame:

Edamame can be seasoned in a variety of ways.

First, even with the air fryer, it’s always good to use an oil spray. Although I do use olive oil spray occasionally, the best one to use is grapeseed oil spray as it has a higher smoke point.

After you have your oil spray, and then it’s time to add a few different seasonings to give it different flavor profiles.

  • Sea Salt – Just a dash of sea salt is my absolute favorite along with your oil spray.
  • Red Pepper Chili Flakes – This will give it a spicy kick, if you can handle the heat, add the chili flakes!
  • Black Pepper and Lemon Juice – For a savory but not spicy approach use ground black pepper.

Other options are adding Curry Powder, Garlic Powder, or Onion Powder, these can also add a lot of flavor too, there are a variety of ways to season edamame, so choose your favorite!

How do you store cooked edamame?

Leftover edamame can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When ready to reheat, heat up in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or they can be warmed up in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 3-4 minutes.

Remember that for best results serve the edamame fresh after cooking.

This is the best easy air fryer recipe plus a great source of protein too.
